I was recently looking for a folk song that I recorded back in 2008 but unfortunately could not find it. Instead, I rediscovered these tracks. I was into recording natural sounds like the sound of breaking glass, birds, purring cats, crickets, water dripping or the liquor cabinet door slamming shut and effecting them, almost adding "special defects". Sometimes I asked myself, "What would Brian Eno do?".
Chronologically, these recordings are the segue between the "noise" album and "the initials". I was still experimenting with making sounds with the laptop. Though, instead of just making ambient sounds and noise, I began to focus more on the beat.
I played guitar, sang songs, tried to make folks sing along. I played covers, I played bars, I wrote songs. Then I got bored and wanted to make ambient music. Maybe it was the heavy exposure of Brian Eno, Aphex Twin And Squarepusher but through my experimentation with ambient noise I began to understand how to manipulate sounds. I began to focus more on the beat and combining the ambient elements. Later on "the initials" album, I would begin to combine ambient, beats and songs. You can also hear how some of these tracks, with their dark and midi heavy nature, would eventually lead to the Halloween albums.
